The Dual Iron water test will help you determine both the dissolved iron and the total iron levels in your water so that proper treatment techniques can be determined. Iron is one of the most common elements making up the earth's crust which explains why it's so prevalent in groundwater.
Iron is mainly present in water in two forms -- soluble ferrous iron or insoluble ferric iron. Water containing ferrous iron is clear and colorless because the iron is completely dissolved. When exposed to air the water can turn cloudy and a reddish brown color can begins to form. This sediment is the oxidized or ferric form of iron that will not dissolve in water. Determining type and levels will help to prevent fouling of resins, iron buildup in water heaters and softeners, reduce softening capacity and any unpleasant tastes, odor or staining that may occur with elevated levels of iron.
The test kit contains all the materials needed to collect the water sample, including detailed instructions on how to collect your sample and where to return it. The sample does not require overnight shipping. Test results are typically completed and e-mailed within 5-7 business days from the date the sample is received at the laboratory.
